WILLOW CREEK
-Ive once heard willow creek described as a ugly,
unfriendly little creek hardly worth doing. I'm
tempted to disagree with this statement. This little
creek comes out of the coastal range in Northern
California about 40 minuets from the Arcata area. All
the coastal rain and inland snow make this creek run
all winter and spring despite its relatively small
drainage.
It has four distinct runs from class 3 to the
forbidden section that contains numerous awesome class 5+ drops many of which haven't been run more than a handful of times. This run is a staple to early Humboldt creekin, I'm praying for rain right now so willow creek will start running.
For a description of how to get to Willow creek
look in Lar's Book, Best Whitewater in Cali (don't mind the harsh review of the run). Make sure you check it out for yourself though ex. the forbidden section is the huge portage in the book. Stop by Arcata and see if you can get someone to show you the local take outs and put ins...
